Welcome to the December 2023 Issue of CAPA Monthly News. This newsletter is for members and friends of CAPA, bringing you up to date information on all things CAPA for photographers all across Canada.

CAPA SPEAKERS SERIES - January 10

The CAPA Speakers Series is a benefit of individual membership. AllCAPA individual membersare invited to attend this free online presentation.

Our next speaker is Jim Lamontat 4:00 pm Pacific Time on January 10. Histopic will be 'There Are No Rules'.

“There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs.” In his presentation J. A. Lamont talks about this statement, attributed to Ansel Adams, while showing the work of various photographers, including his own.

COMPETITIONS


Congratulations to the all the winners of the2023 Black and White Competition -Club.A total of 291 images were submitted by 50 CAPA clubs, one of which was a new club entering for the first time.

Refined Criteria for Judging Images

CAPA's Director of Judging has posted a message about thelatest refinements to criteria for judging images. Judges will award their scoring primarily based on the ‘emotional’ components of the image to recognize the 'creativity and emotional impact' of an image.

This month, we recognize long time membersMurray Fennerof Toronto, ON,Patrick Wallof Margaree Forks, NSandMichael Breakay,of Kelowna, BC all of whom joined CAPA in 1998. Michael is an Honorary Member and served on the CAPA Board as Director of Education and Secretary.Thank you for your loyalty, your dedication to CAPA, your volunteer work and many years of membership in CAPA.

CANADIAN PHOTOGRAPHY MAGAZINE


Do you have a photo project or special camera technique you'd like to talk about and share your images? We'd love to hear from you. We are especially urging those with expertise in all genres of photography to share their knowledge with our readers. Such how-to articles need not be lengthy and can be accompanied by photos that help illustrate the procedures. Members appreciate seeing your images and learning from fellow CAPA members. Articles can be in English or French.
